Art from the National Museums Liverpool goes on display at the ACC and Echo Arena
National Museums Liverpool is reaching out to show off their collections to a wider audience.
The organisation, which has eight venues across the city, has joined up with ACC Liverpool and the Echo Arena to host a larger-than-life art exhibition at the waterfront venue.
And an image of one of the displays – an African bronze head – is being projected onto the building to give people a taste of what is on offer.
Professor Phil Redmond, Chairman at National Museums Liverpool, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to reveal the wealth of our world-famous collections in an innovative way to reach new audiences.
“ACC Liverpool is a striking, modern venue and the art works will give the building a new feel and link it to other key attractions across the city.” The biggest exhibit is that of the 16th- century Edo “Head of Queen Mother” from Benin City, Nigeria, that is normally on display at the World Museum Liverpool.
Other iconic objects and artworks included in the exhibition include the Titanic crashing through the Galleria wall, and a view of Ben Johnson's Liverpool City Landscape in the main entrance.
Bob Prattey, Chief Executive at ACC Liverpool, agreed the “So Close” project showcases the city's cultural attractions to visitors, enhancing their experience of Liverpool.
He said: “It gives us the opportunity to bring some art into the venue, complementing and enhancing the architecture of the building”.
The initiative, funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, has been designed to signpost some of the city's cultural attractions to concert-goers and conference delegates who are within walking distance of the venue.
According to Nick Brooks-Sykes, Director of Tourism at the NWDA, ACC Liverpool is a fantastic venue that is drawing thousands of new visitors to Liverpool every year; be it for international conferences or to see top performers.
He said: “This exciting initiative will give those visitors an insight into the fantastic cultural offer across the city and will hopefully encourage them to discover a bit more of Liverpool for themselves.
“It will also add to the visitor experience of ACC Liverpool, creating a positive image of the city and encouraging people to return.”
The displays will be updated to promote other cultural venues across the city.
